OFT21-504G - Installation, commissioning and servicing of ground source heat pumps

Introduction

This course is for technicians who wish to install, commission and service Ground Source Heat Pumps (non-refrigerant system). The course covers a variety of areas including health and safety, regional legislation and requirements, safe electrical isolation, factors to be considered before and during installation, filling and flushing requirements, appliance installation, thermal transfer fluids, collector circuit installation and sizing, soundness tests, operational checks and procedures, fault finding identifying unsafe situations, and practical servicing and commissioning.

To provide the knowledge and understanding required to design heat pump heating systems.

Who is the course aimed at?

Anyone who needs to install, commission and service ground source heat pump installations.

PLEASE NOTE: Heat pump courses are also available for anyone not involved in installing or designing heat pump systems, but who require a background knowledge, as well as those who are looking to install systems of this type.

PLEASE NOTE: A heat pump course for non-installers is available for anyone not involved in installing heat pumps but who require a background knowledge.

Anyone involved in the design of heat pump installations will also need to undertake the Designing Low Temperature Heating and Hot Water Systems in Dwellings course.

Entry requirements/pre-requisites

Applicants must hold a nationally recognised qualification and/or registration in a trade associated with heating and/or plumbing work for a period of not less than two years, and hold both current and valid Water Regulations AND Unvented Hot Water certificates.

Must have ‘on the job’ heating installation and/or maintenance experience for a period of not less than two years, and hold both current and valid Water Regulations AND Unvented Hot Water certificates.

PLEASE NOTE: Course delegates will not be installing a heat pump during this course. For anyone wanting this type of training it is recommended that they contact a heat pump manufacturer

Assessment

Assessment is via multiple choice theory papers, practically assessed worksheets (PAWS), and practical hands-on assessment.

Course Outcome/Qualification

Candidates who successfully complete the assessment will receive an OFTEC OFT21-504G qualification in the installation, commissioning and servicing of ground source heat pumps
