OFT21-504D - OFTEC Level 3 Award In The Design of Heat Pump system

Introduction

This course is for heat pump system designers. It covers a variety of areas including sizing of systems and selection of components, relevant legislation, ground source collector circuit design and sizing, open and closed loop systems, heating circuit design requirements, energy efficiency, pipework, heat emitters and low temperature hot water system design.

To provide the knowledge and understanding required to design heat pump heating systems.

Who is the course aimed at?

Anyone who needs to design heat pump heating installations.

PLEASE NOTE: Heat pump courses are also available for anyone not involved in installing or designing heat pump systems, but who require a background knowledge, as well as those who are looking to install systems of this type.

PLEASE NOTE: A heat pump course for non-installers is available for anyone not involved in installing heat pumps but who require a background knowledge.

Anyone involved in the design of heat pump installations will also need to undertake the Designing Low Temperature Heating and Hot Water Systems in Dwellings course.

Entry requirements/pre-requisites

Applicants must hold a nationally recognised qualification and/or registration in a trade associated with heating and/or plumbing work or heat pump design work for a period of not less than two years

or

Must have ‘on the job’ heat pump design experience for a period of not less than two years.

PLEASE NOTE: Course delegates will not be installing a heat pump during this course. For anyone wanting this type of training it is recommended that they contact a heat pump manufacturer

Assessment

Assessment is via multiple choice theory papers and practically assessed worksheets.

Course Outcome/Qualification

Candidates who successfully complete the assessment will receive an OFTEC OFT21-504A qualification in the installation, commissioning and servicing of air source heat pumps
