LCL Awards Level 3 Award in Auditing of a Gas Business Work Management Procedures

Introduction

This training and assessment course is designed for those who undertake gas auditing work in any sector, including social housing, so that they can assess an organisation's management of risk. It gives a detailed understanding of the role of a Gas Auditor and best practice procedures, as required by Gas Managers.

Those working within the gas industry have a great responsibility to ensure that individuals are not affected by the work activities undertaken by any company or organisation. One of the main aspects of ensuring these properties are safe is by confirming that gas appliances have been installed and serviced correctly by employing Quality Control Auditing processes. There is also a need for the Social Housing Landlord to ensure they comply with legislation, in particular the Gas Safety (Installation & Use) Regulations 1998 and the Health and Safety at Work Act.

Experience has shown that the vast majority of the people responsible for the auditing of gas work undertaken within these properties do not have a formal auditing qualification upon which they can rely.

Those attending this course will be provided with a good understanding of the relevant requirements of gas auditing and, provided they are successful in the relevant assessment, will be qualified to undertake the role of a Gas Auditor.

Course content

The course covers key areas of the gas auditing process;

• Planning for an audit
• Conducting an audit
• Understanding the requirements for maintaining audit records and information
• Understand how to apply audit interview techniques
• Understand the purpose and function of an audit report
• Understand the structure and format of a written audit report
• Understand how to provide feedback on the findings of the audit
• Audit a gas business’s procedures for the recruitment and selection of gas operatives and how the monitoring of their work performance is conducted
• Audit a gas business’s management of gas operatives training, qualifications and work allocation
• Audit a gas business which supervises and quality controls the work of direct employed, sub contract and agency gas operatives
• Audit a gas business’s procedures for maintaining gas operative work records and documentation
• Audit a gas business’s procedures for managing the issue and maintenance of tools, equipment and materials
• Audit a gas business’s procedures for managing effective customer care
• Audit a gas business’s procedures for managing the key support functions of the business
• Audit a gas business’s procedures for the Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and dangerous Occurrences Regulations (RIDDOR) and the Gas Industry Unsafe Situations Procedures (GIUSP)

Course duration

One day guided learning, followed by self-study modules and assessment based distance learning with final examination.

Course Outcome/Qualification

Candidates who successfully complete the assessment will receive a LCL Awards certificate of competence in the subject area undertaken.

Anyone who wishes to become gas qualified must first successfully complete the Managed Learning Programme Gas course for new entrants as well as undertaking the relevant ACS assessments.
