This qualification is designed solely for individuals who have been working in the electrotechnical industry as a practicing electrician for a minimum of five years and possess the relevant knowledge, understanding and competence (aligned to the level 3 electrotechnical apprenticeship qualification).
It forms part of the requirements for the Electrotechnical Experienced Worker Assessment, together with the AM2E (outside of the qualification), enabling the experienced worker to apply for an ECS Installation Electrician Gold Card.
PLEASE NOTE: This qualification is NOT for new entrants to the electrotechnical industry, apprentices, or those who have completed an electrotechnical technical qualification with less than five years’ (full time) relevant industry experience.

Course delegates will gain ability in various aspects of electrical installation work.
Integral to this qualification is the Electrotechnical Occupational Competence Unit which is assessed by the AM2 (Please note: this is NOT undertaken at SWAAT and must be organised independently by the person undertaking the course.)
Electrical operatives who have a minimum of five years on-site electrical installation experience
Anyone attending this course must have a minimum of five years on-site electrical installation experience. In addition, learners must hold at least a relevant Level 2 qualification. This Level 2 qualification can be any of the following;

There are also two units which between them cover BS 7671 wiring regulations and initial verification.
This part of the qualification must be completed within 18 months. This means completion of the experienced worker qualification and submission of ] the gateway application to take the AM2E must be within this period. The AM2E assessment itself can be sat after this point, providing the gateway submission is made within the 18 months.
In reality most learners will take anywhere between 6 and 18 months. Most of the time spent will involve portfolio building and on-site assessment of your current work. You should ensure that the work you are undertaking will provide you with the breadth required before you enrol on this qualification.
In order to undertake this course you will need an up-to-date BS7671 and part one of the Inspection and Testing Qualification.
The AM2E Assessment (Installation Electrician route) or AM2ED Assessment (Domestic Electrician route), which is separate to the Experienced Worker Qualification, is the industry assessment of competence which mirrors the end assessment in the industry apprenticeship. It is a practical assessment taken under controlled conditions in a NET-licensed centre. This can only be booked after the Experienced Worker qualification is achieved..

The qualification is assessed by a mixture of on-screen exams, written assignments, and practical assessments.
Candidates who successfully complete the assessment will receive an EAL Level 3 Electrotechnical Experienced Worker Award
