This course is designed for individuals who want to become electrically competent and join a competent person scheme. This qualification is a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ). It involves the skills and knowledge needed to do the job, the ability to organise work, and the ability to identify and prevent problems. It is designed for individuals who have electrical competence, but not the experience or pre-requisites required to undertake the experienced worker route.
This qualification comprises of the skills and knowledge required to install electrotechnical systems and equipment in buildings, structures, and the environment.
The qualification is made up of knowledge units and performance units. The units cover a wide range of topics, including health and safety, environmental technology systems, overseeing and organising the work environment, planning, preparing and installing electrical systems and equipment, terminating and connecting conductors, cables and flexible cords, inspecting, testing, commissioning, and fault diagnosis and correction.and fault diagnosis and correction.
NOTE: In order to achieve the full certificate, the candidate must undertake the AM2 assessment on completion of this qualification (this must be undertaken at a different assessment centre - to be arranged by the delegate.

The qualification is expected to take between six and twelve months, but candidates can take up to two years to complete, from commencement of the course.

The qualification is assessed by a mixture of on-screen exams, written assignments, and practical assessments.
Candidates who successfully complete the assessment will receive an EAL Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Installing Electrotechnical Systems and Equipment (Buildings, Structures and the Environment)
