16TH EDITION WIRING REGULATIONS (BS7671)

WHO IS THE COURSE INTENDED FOR? The 16th Edition Wiring Regulations qualification is for practising technicians who are experienced with electrical installations. It is intended to ensure that all who undertake the course are up-to-date with the format, content and applications of BS7671. The course is also suitable for those who may require a working knowledge of BS7671, for example Architects or Designers. The current information from City and Guilds (published April 2007) indicates that the 17th Edition will not be available for certification until around September 2008. Current indications are that if you achieved the 16th Edition anytime from the mid-1990s onwards, you will only require a one day update to the 17th Edition (no exam required).
WHAT ARE THE ENTRY REQUIREMENTS? There is no pe-requisite for 16th Edition, only that candidates should have a working knowledge of electrical installations.
HOW LONG IS THE COURSE? The course is run over four days - three days are for training and one-day is the assessment. There is some home study and the coourse is very intensive.
WHAT IS STUDIED? The requirements of the recognised trade qualification City and Guilds 2381.
HOW IS TRAINING CARRIED OUT? The course is taught in the centre in very small groups. Some additional study in candidates' own time is also required.
HOW IS ASSESSMENT CARRIED OUT? Written examination at the end of the course through a multiple-choice GOLA on-line examination set by City and Guilds.
WHAT OPPORTUNITIES WILL THE COURSE PROVIDE? At the end of the course candidates will be aware of all of the most recent changes in the regulations as specified by the IEE. The qualification is also required by most employers within the industry. It is also a requirement to become Part P registered with some Registration Bodies (PLEASE NOTE: This qualification on its own does not make any successful candidates Part P qualified/registered.).

CANDIDATES WILL NEED TO HAVE A COPY OF BS7671 AND AN ON-SITE GUIDE IN ORDER TO COMPLETE THIS COURSE. THESE ARE BOTH AVAILABLE FROM ELECTRICAL WHOLESELLERS OR BOOKSHOPS.
