Annual Charity Open Day 2011
Saturday 18th June saw yet another successful Charity Open Day held at the South West Assessment and Training centre in Liskeard, with all proceeds being split equally between the Salvation Army and LiveWire, a youth music project.
Firstly we would like to say a very big "Thank You" to the manufacturers and suppliers who came to support us; step forward Climate Control and Spares UK Ltd who pulled out all the stops. Climate Control and Spares UK Ltd are a Daikin approved supplier of refrigeration parts and equipment and renewable technology based in Plymouth. For further details of the service they provide, click here to visit their page.
We are equally grateful to Lianne Tasker from the Environmental Skills Network who supported the day and offered advice and funding for anyone looking to change career path.
A good day was had by all and SWAAT would especially like to thank the following plumbing and heating engineers who came to support us;
- Barry Matthews (and also a big thanks to Barry for advertising the event on the OPGO website)
- Craig Kurn (and congratulations on the birth baby Eliza!)
- Eric Brown
- Jon Blight
- Richard Holmes (Did raffle ticket number 422 ever get drawn?!)
- Alex Ritter
- Sam Weekes
- Clive Frederick-Preece
- Mike Hughes and family
- Carl Newsome
- Stuart Pemberton
- Kieran Seccombe
- Andy Richards
- Matt Butler
- Mervyn Swabey (whilst although unable to attend telephoned before the event and very generously donated some money for the charities)
We would also like to thank;
- Jon Stafford from the LiveWire Youth Music Project who performed acoustic live music for most of the day and I am sure everyone who attended will agree he has the 'X Factor'. Don't believe us - then check him out in the video snippet below;
- Chloe the Clown who was excellent and very good entertainment for both children and adults alike. Definitely worth booking for those tricky childrens' parties!
- Mel from Funky Faces for her fantastic 'creations' which included fairies, butterflies, tigers, skeletons, a..uh..fried egg(!) and an...um....Oompa Loompa (!!!)
- Mr Bounce - who despite having the weather against him still managed to smile all day and kept the children entertained with the bouncy castle.
- Pam from the Salvation Army who gave up her time to support the day (and booked one of our regular gas engineers for some work I believe!)
- The Ask Group who very kindly set up a stall with some volunteers and whole-heartedly participated in the day.
- Buzz Lightyear (a.k.a. Mike) who served some sterling bacon and steak rolls from our newly acquired commercial catering equipment.
- and finally....Liskeard Mayor Nick Mallard who was 'enlightened' about what we do at the centre and officially opened the new gas training centre, as SWAAT continues to improve the range of courses on offer.

But of course, the day wouldn't have been a success if it wasn't for the hard work of our team;
Tracy (Tweedle-Dee), Claire (Snow White), Paul (an Oompa Loompa) and Jeff (er..Jeff!)
who tiredlessly worked to ensure that everything worked like clockwork. So a very very big "Thank You" for all your hard work and commitment.
The total amount raised hasn't been established at this time but I think we can safely say that it was a very worthwhile day.
