Annual Charity Open Day 2009

SuperheroesThe second South West Assessment and Training Annual Charity Open Day was held on Saturday 18th July and was a great success. This is quite simply due to all those who supported the day and special thanks must be made to the following people;

Alex (a.k.a. Bat Girl),
Yvonne (a.k.a. Cat Woman),
Jeremy and Angela

...without whose help the day would never have run as smoothly as it did!

We would also like to thank; Kevin Berriman our 'unofficial' photographer for the day, Kieran Seccombe, Sean Smith, Mervyn Swabey, Stuart Pemberton, Joel Wright, Jonathon Williams, Mark Hugh, Stephen Palmer, Craig Kurn, Tony Murray, Barry Matthews, Brian Youseman Colin Gubbins Alan Pluckrose, Ben Bradshaw - CIPHE, Lionel Roberson - CIPHE, Richard Old and Richard Bone, all 'friends of S.W.A.A.T.' and who very kindly came along to the centre on the day and gave their support.

A special thanks must be given to Richard Bone who very generously donated £60 from his own pocket to the very worthy causes we are supporting; the Cornwall Air Ambulance and ROC – Robert Owen Communities, a charity offering opportunities to people with learning disabilities in Devon & Cornwall.

Manufacturers and suppliers gave their support on the day including;

Vaillant, ReZolve Kernow, Firebird, The Dodd Group, Anton Group, Indcourt, Zenex, Megger

so we would like to extend our thanks to these companies also.

Sweet FlavaAtlantic FM broadcast live from the event and provided entertainment throughout the day which included the spectactular dance troupe, Sweet Flava. Snippets of the day's broadcast can be heard by clicking on one of the following links; Clip 1, Clip 2, Clip 3, Clip 4.

Children were, once again, kept entertained by Emazdad, as well as a very talented children's face painter and a bouncy castle supplied by Mr Bounce.

The South West College of Renewable Technologies was officially opened by the Mayor of Liskeard, Tony Powell and provided those who attended the Open Day with the opportunity to see some of the latest renewable energy technology available today, including a ground source heat pump, a Vokera Neutro biomass boiler, a Baxi Multiheat biomass burner and an airsource heatpump all aiding towards the underfloor heating system through a DPS Thermal Store linked via a SystemLink SystemZone manifold.

BatgirlsAs at the 2008 Charity Open Day, the Grand Prize Draw raised several smiles amongst the people attending as some of the prizes won included a A brand new BEKO washing machine courtesy of Local funding provider ReZolve Kernow, a DVD player kindly donated by Baxi and a Microwave oven provided by South West Assessment and Training. A full list of the prize winners will be posted onto this site over the next few days.

Over £800 was raised at last year's event and this was donated to the local charity Ellie's Haven, who are aiming to build a non-medical holiday haven for the children of Devon and Cornwall and their families.

The total raised from the 2009 Charity Open Day is in excess of £2000!
