INTRODUCTION
All electrical work in dwellings must legally comply with Part P
of the Building Regulations. In addition, all installers must also inform their local Building Control Officer
of any impending electrical work and arrange for it to be officially tested, unless they are registered on an
industry-recognised 'self-certification' scheme. This course is designed for electrical installers and
associated trades such as kitchen/bathroom fitters, plumbers, garden installers and stairlift fitters etc.
The qualification has been developed in partnership with the ECA, NICEIC and CORGI. All 17 units must be completed
to gain the full qualification.
COURSE OBJECTIVES/KEY BENEFITS
To provide anyone wishing to carry out 'minor' domestic electrical installation work and/or
testing with the required knowledge, skills and understanding to competently undertake this work.
WHO IS THE COURSE AIMED AT?
Electrical installers and associated trades such as kitchen/bathroom fitters, plumbers,
garden installers and stairlift fitters etc.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS/PRE-REQUISITES
There are no entry/pre-requisite requirements to attend this course. However for anyone
who has a limited or no electrical knowledge it is highly recommended that they undertake the
Basic Electrics course prior to this one.

* Pre-work surveys and inspections
* Safe isolation procedures
* Identifying unsafe electrical situations
* Domestic electrical earthing and bonding requirements
* Performing electrical test procedures
* Selecting the correct cables and components
* Installing and replacing electrical components
* Checking the correct and safe operation of installed electrical components
* Recording electrical test results and completing certificates
* Installing and rerouting domestic electrical cables
* Understanding the requirements of special locations
* Understanding the new domestic electrical circuit requirements;
* Installing domestic lighting circuits
* Maintaining domestic electrical installations
* Understanding 3-phase supplies.
