BPEC Disinfection and Risk Assessment of Water Systems for Legionella

Introduction

Under general health and safety law it is a legal requirement of employers and persons in charge of buildings to consider the risks from legionella. Legionnaire's Disease is caused by inhaling small droplets of water suspended in the air and is typical in areas where water is maintained at a temperature high enough to encourage growth such as cooling towers, spa pools and hot water systems used in both commercial and domestic properties. This course has been designed to meet the training requirements of the revised Approved Code of Practice (ACOP) and guidance for Legionnaires disease.

Course Objectives/Key Benefits

The skilled operative, upon successful completion, will be able to carry out disinfection and legionella risk assessments to enable full compliance under Health and Safety Executive legislation.

Who is the course aimed at?

Individuals who wish to physically disinfect hot and cold water systems as well as managers who are responsible for the management and maintenance of water systems in residential accommodation (e.g. managers of nursing homes and housing associations).

Entry Requirements/Pre-requisites

Anyone undertaking this course should have a good understanding of hot and cold water plumbing systems.

Ideally they should also hold a Water Regulations qualification.

Course Outcome/Qualification

Candidates who successfully complete the assessment will receive a BPEC hot and cold water disinfection and legionella certificate.

The candidate will also gain an understanding of the procedures required to successfully carry out a risk assessment and satisfactory disinfection of hot and cold water systems.
