City and Guilds 6020-01 - Level 3 Diploma for Domestic Energy Assessors

Introduction

This training programme has been designed for those either wishing to become Domestic Energy Assessors or who wish to progress to qualify as Home Inspectors. It is for anyone new to this profession and need a comprehensive programme of training and assessment to deliver the knowledge and skills they will require in their new role.

Energy assessment is an essential component of the Domestic Energy Assessor/Home Inspectors skills and the SWAAT new entrant training and assessment programme has been configured to allow candidates to achieve the Diploma in Domestic Energy Assessment at an interim stage.

Who is the course aimed at?

Programme is intended ideally for candidates whose current employment provides experience of relevance to Units 1 and 2 of the Diploma in respect of working in an effective and professional manner and contributing to the safety and security of people and property.

However, the course is designed on the basis that they have no relevant knowledge of experience of domestic energy assessments before starting the programme.

Entry Requirements/Pre-requisites

There are no entry/pre-requisite requirements. However a knowledge and understanding of construction methods and/or heating systems will be beneficial.

Course content

Workshop 1 - Introduction to Diploma and Portfolio Building;
Provides candidates will all they need to get underway with the assessment process for the Diploma

Workshop 2 - House Construction, Survey, Heating and Controls
Helps candidates develop their knowledge base and identification skills.

Workshop 3 - RDSAP Methodology/Portfolio building
Provides candidates with the understanding of the methodology and the associated conventions that they need to undertake a Domestic Energy Assessment.
Benefit from feedback, discussions and classroom exercises.

Workshop 4 - Online Exam and on-site assessment.

PLEASE NOTE: Practical assessment must be arranged within 10 miles of Liskeard, otherwise a fee will be incurred for travelling and time spent on-site.

Course Duration

South West Assessment and Training offer four workshops. A portfolio of evidence needs to be compiled by the candidate in their own time and therefore the length of the course largely depends upon the individual. However the portfolio must be successfully completed and signed off as such within two years from starting the course.

Assessment

'On-line' computer-based time-limited multiple-choice question exam and 'on-site' practical assessment.

Course Outcome/Qualification

Candidates who successfully complete the assessment will receive a City and Guilds 6020-01 Domestic Energy Assessor qualification.
