Introduction

The Code for Sustainable Homes is the seminal national standard (adopted in England, Wales and Northern Ireland), which sets the benchmark for the sustainable design and construction of new homes. Meeting level three of the Code for Sustainable Homes is a requirement for organisations receiving government funding for affordable housing. For private sector housing achieving a strong environmental rating provides a powerful marketing tool for the developer.
