To ensure candidates have the relevant knowledge, understanding and skills to competently work on commercial catering gas installations.
Anyone who intends to work on commercial catering gas installations.
Any operatives undertaking the individual appliance assessments must hold an appropriate industrial/commercial core gas safety qualification or relevant changeover qualification (see below for these assessments).
For those who do not hold the relevant core gas safety qualifications South West Assessment and Training offer a Managed Learning Programme Gas course for new entrants.
The following commercial catering gas assessments are available;
CCCN1 - Core Commercial Catering Gas Safety
CODC1 - Changeover Domestic to Catering Catering Gas Safety
NOTE: Either of the above listed assessments must be completed by the operative prior to taking any catering assessment.
COMCAT1 = Open/Solid Top Ranges
COMCAT2 = Water Boilers (Pressure Type)
COMCAT3 = Deep Fat & Pressure Fryers
COMCAT4 = Fish & Chip Fryers (on-site assessment only)
COMCAT5 = Forced Draught Equipment (on-site assessment only)
CMC = Commercial Mobile Catering Equipment.
The duration of the assessment depends on a several factors, including the number of assessments taken.

Practical assessment and multiple choice question papers
Successful candidates will be able to work on the industrial/commercial installation types for which they have qualified.
It is an open book assessment and it is therefore highly recommended that candidates undertaking it have an up-to-date gas publication.
