City and Guilds 6129 Technical Certificate in Plumbing

Introduction

The City and Guilds 6129 Technical Certificate in Plumbing is designed to provide a basis for the training required to support the NVQs in plumbing.

Course Objectives/Key Benefits

To provide an up-to-date knowledge and understanding of basic plumbing principles in preparation for the NVQs in plumbing.

Who is the course aimed at?

The course is aimed at anyone with limited or no plumbing knowledge or experience who wish to gain basic plumbing knowledge and skills, and who may wish to progress to an NVQ qualification.

Entry Requirements/Pre-requisites

The course is designed for students of either gender and is open to all ages. Students wishing to enrol can speak to a member of the SWAAT training staff to be advised of their suitability.

Students will be provided with materials and tools but to satisfy Health & Safety requirements students will require steel-capped footwear and overalls.

  • Safety in plumbing activities
  • Key plumbing principles
  • Common plumbing processes
  • Cold water systems
  • Domestic hot water systems
  • Sanitation Systems
  • Central heating systems/pipework
  • Electricity supply
  • Sheet lead weathering
  • Environmental awareness
  • Effective working relationships
  • Basic plumbing studies (GOLA End Test)

Basic plumbing practical tasks including;

  • Bathroom installation
  • Maintenance
  • Commissioning and de-commissioning
  • Fault finding
  • Heating systems/copper/plastic/low carbon steel
  • Drainage
  • Leadwork

Course Duration

Dependant on experience.

For those with some experience - this course can be taken in one of two ways;

OPTION 1 - An intensive 6 week Fast-Track Plumbing Course (six week block),
OPTION 2 - One week a month for six months

For those with no or limited experience - Approximately 38 days per year (maximum) over a 2 year period.

Practical assessments and multiple-choice City and Guilds GOLA exams.

Course Outcome/Qualification

Candidates who successfully complete the assessment will receive a City and Guilds 6129 Certificate in Plumbing.
